This October, the international art world will turn its attention to Paris as Christie’s presents one of the most significant private collections of Impressionist masterpieces to reach the market in decades. Titled “Durand-Ruel: Generations of Vision,” the October 22 auction will showcase 62 exceptional works that have remained within the family of legendary art dealer Paul Durand-Ruel for generations.
Leading the sale is Claude Monet’s Bord des falaises à Pourville, painted around 1882 during the artist’s celebrated stay along Normandy’s dramatic coastline. The luminous landscape, expected to achieve between €11 million and €15 million, stands as one of Monet’s most admired coastal compositions, with comparable paintings from the same period now housed in leading museums including the Art Institute of Chicago, Museum Barberini, and the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts.
The collection offers a remarkable survey of Impressionism and beyond, featuring works by Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Camille Pissarro, Alfred Sisley, Gustave Loiseau, Henry Moret, and Pablo Picasso. The auction coincides with Art Basel Paris and arrives as the global art community continues commemorating the centenary of Monet’s passing.

This September, Paul Durand-Ruel’s great-great-granddaughter, Victoria Mouraux Durand-Ruel, will launch the Mouraux Durand-Ruel Gallery in New York’s Chelsea district. The gallery will debut with an exhibition dedicated to acclaimed French photographer Lucien Clergue, extending the family’s longstanding commitment to supporting influential artists into a new generation.
