Vacheron Constantin Welcomes the Year of the Goat in Enamel and Gold

Vacheron Constantin marks the approaching Year of the Goat with two Métiers d’Art watches that place hand-crafted sculpture at the centre of the dial. The new pair, each limited to 25 pieces, arrives ahead of Lunar New Year in February 2027, when the Goat succeeds the Horse in the Chinese zodiac.

The editions are presented in 18-carat 5N pink gold (Ref. 86073/000R-H105) and 950 platinum (Ref. 86073/000P-H104). Each features a three-dimensional goat surrounded by an enamelled landscape, brought to life through engraving, patination, and miniature painting.

The Goat is the eighth animal in the zodiac cycle and the latest subject in a series Vacheron Constantin began in 2012. A second 12-year cycle started with the Year of the Snake in 2024, giving returning collectors the chance to see familiar zodiac signs reimagined.

A goat poised on a rocky outcrop forms the focal point of each dial. The sculpture is made in 18-carat white gold for the platinum edition and pink gold for its counterpart. Artisans hand-engrave each figure in relief over approximately three days, then apply patina and miniature enamel to bring out its character. The surrounding landscape is rendered in multi-coloured grand feu enamel, with graduated tones and hand-painted foliage. Creating the enamel background takes around two weeks. The dial is fired at temperatures above 800°C between layers, a demanding process in which each firing must be carefully controlled.

To preserve the artwork, Vacheron Constantin has kept the dial free of conventional hands. Instead, four apertures display the time and calendar: trailing hours and minutes appear at the top, while jumping day and date indications sit below. Discs beneath the dial drive each display, leaving the goat and its setting unobstructed. The watches are powered by the self-winding Calibre 2460 G4. Measuring 31 mm across and 6.05 mm thick, the movement runs at 4 Hz, or 28,800 vibrations per hour, and offers a power reserve of approximately 40 hours. It comprises 237 components and 27 jewels, carries the Hallmark of Geneva, and can be viewed through the sapphire crystal caseback.

Both references share a 40 mm case with a thickness of 12.72 mm and water resistance of 3 bar, equivalent to approximately 30 metres. The pink gold model is paired with a dark brown alligator strap; the platinum edition has a dark blue alligator strap. Each is secured by a folding clasp in the matching metal and is supplied with a corrector pen for adjusting the calendar.

The collection also reflects Vacheron Constantin’s long-standing ties to China. The maison sent 33 pairs of watches to Canton in 1846 and, in 2024, formed a partnership with the Educational Institute of the Palace Museum in Beijing. In this context, the zodiac watches become part of a wider cultural exchange expressed through the decorative arts.

Limited to 25 examples per reference, the Year of the Goat editions are offered on request. Further details are available on the Vacheron Constantin website.
