Bentley has entered a defining new chapter with the global unveiling of the Torcal, a completely new model line and the marque’s first fully electric production car. Revealed in London, the five-metre luxury SUV introduces a more progressive interpretation of Bentley design while remaining rooted in the craftsmanship that has defined the Crewe marque for more than a century. Designed, engineered and handcrafted at Bentley’s headquarters in Crewe, the Torcal joins the Continental GT, Flying Spur and Bentayga as the fourth model line in the contemporary range, establishing an entirely new expression of Bentley luxury for the electric era.
Its name is drawn from El Torcal de Antequera, the extraordinary limestone landscape in Andalusia, Spain, where towering rock formations have been sculpted by nature over millions of years. The connection is more than poetic: the landscape’s dramatic combination of strength, movement and organic forms mirrors the philosophy behind Bentley’s new SUV. The Torcal also marks the first expression of a new, cleaner design language for Bentley, with a sleek and minimalist silhouette replacing visual excess with carefully considered surfaces and details. At its front, the illuminated Floating Diamond Grille features 76 individually hand-applied diamonds that gradually illuminate when the vehicle is unlocked, creating a distinctive signature after dark.
Underneath that restrained exterior lies an advanced electric architecture designed to deliver both effortless grand touring and extraordinary performance. The standard Torcal combines two electric motors to produce 821 PS and 1,155 Nm of torque, enabling 0–60 mph in 3.3 seconds, while its 113.2 kWh battery provides up to 375 miles of range. Bentley says more than 150 miles can be added in around 10 minutes at a 350 kW charging station. The performance-led Torcal Stakes the formula considerably further, becoming the most powerful production Bentley ever built with 888 PS and 1,350 Nm, reaching 60 mph from rest in just 2.8 seconds with Launch Control activated and a top speed of 162 mph.
Performance, however, is only one part of the Torcal experience. Bentley has developed an advanced active suspension and roll-control system in which each wheel is individually managed through electrically controlled hydraulic pumps. Combined with all-wheel drive and all-wheel steering, the system is designed to provide exceptional composure while maintaining the effortless, supple character expected from a Bentley. The technology also extends into everyday life, with intelligent parking functions, Remote Park Assist, a system capable of remembering the route into and out of a garage, and Reversing Assist that can retrace the last 50 metres when manoeuvring out of tight spaces. Through the My Bentley app, owners can remotely monitor charging and vehicle status, pre-condition the cabin and even operate selected functions from their smartphone.
Inside, Bentley treats electrification not as a departure from craftsmanship but as an opportunity to rethink it. The Torcal introduces a new palette of materials, including a pioneering 100 per cent Merino wool automotive fabric developed with British clothmaker Fox Brothers. Naturally breathable and soft to the touch, the fabric brings a fashion-house sensibility to the cabin while meeting the demands of automotive use. Mulliner’s craftsmanship is expressed through the extraordinary Ombré veneer, created from as many as 1,000 individually selected and pressed layers of walnut, sliced to less than a millimetre thick to produce a seamless transition from light to dark. Brushed aluminium and carefully curated colour combinations further reinforce the Torcal’s modern, tactile character.
Technology is integrated with a similarly sophisticated approach. Curved displays sit alongside handcrafted materials rather than dominating the cabin, while Bentley’s new Curation Engine allows the atmosphere of the interior to respond to the driver’s chosen mode. Seating, lighting, sound, heating and ventilation can work together to create different sensory environments, transforming the cabin from a purely functional space into something closer to a private sanctuary. This philosophy reflects Bentley’s belief that luxury should be experienced through every sense, rather than simply observed.
Perhaps the most unexpected expression of this philosophy is the Torcal’s soundtrack. Rather than settling for a synthetic electric-vehicle tone, Bentley turned to musicians and acoustic instruments including drums, viola and bass guitar to create an entirely new sonic identity. The development began with analysis of Bentley’s legendary V8 and a study of the rhythm that gives an internal-combustion engine its emotional character. The resulting Bentley Dynamic Symphony does not attempt to imitate the V8; instead, it translates its energy and sense of occasion into a new musical language shaped by the driver’s inputs.
The Torcal arrives as part of Bentley’s broader transformation toward electrification. The marque has been progressively expanding its plug-in hybrid portfolio while preparing its historic Crewe headquarters for a new generation of electric vehicles. Bentley says its manufacturing site has operated on 100 per cent green electricity since 2017 and 100 per cent green gas since 2019, while its forthcoming “Dream Factory” is being developed to support a more flexible, digitally enabled and lower-impact manufacturing future. The Torcal therefore represents more than the arrival of a new vehicle; it is one of the most visible expressions yet of Bentley’s wider transformation.
What makes the Torcal particularly significant is that Bentley has chosen not to define electric luxury purely through numbers. Performance is extraordinary, technology is deeply integrated and sustainability informs the materials and manufacturing philosophy, but the essence remains unmistakably Bentley: handcrafted details, tactile materials, serene comfort and an obsessive attention to the emotional experience of travel. With the Torcal, Crewe is not simply electrifying the Bentley formula it is using electricity, technology and new materials to reinterpret what that formula can become.
The result is a Bentley for a new generation: quieter, more progressive and technologically ambitious, yet still built around the enduring idea that true luxury should make every journey feel extraordinary.
