Jaeger-LeCoultre brings together haute horology and jewellery design in the Calibre 101 Chain, a new gold bangle built around one of the maison’s most celebrated movements. Its petite rectangular dial is powered by the Calibre 101, recognised as the world’s smallest rectangular hand wound mechanical watch movement. Created through Jaeger-LeCoultre’s long pursuit of miniaturisation, the calibre began with just 74 components and has evolved into a movement of 98 finely made parts. Their scale demands extraordinary precision, along with tools and components developed specifically for assembly.

The design looks to a 1955 Jaeger-LeCoultre creation also called “Chain,” while drawing on the splendour of Europe’s royal courts, where a watch could serve as both a practical instrument and a statement of refinement. Pink gold forms the bangle, offset by dark ceramic and the brilliance of 158 diamonds. At its centre, a black-lacquered dial is framed with diamonds, giving the time display the presence of a jewel.

The making process reflects this emphasis on adornment. Jaeger-LeCoultre first shaped the bracelet, then incorporated the watch into its design, treating the timepiece as an integral part of the jewellery rather than the other way around. Each bangle is individually formed, so every example has its own character. With its miniature mechanical heart and carefully worked materials, the Calibre 101 Chain brings together the maison’s watchmaking heritage and its appreciation for the artistry of fine jewellery.
