Rivian Unveils All-Electric Pickup Truck

Rivian has just unveiled their take on the pickup truck segment with the R1T, which has been dubbed an ‘Electric Adventure Vehicle’ with a range of more than 400 miles (643 km) and enough room to seat five adult passengers comfortably. Founded by CEO and MIT grad RJ Scaringe.

Unlike other high-profile electric vehicle startups, Rivian mostly stayed in the shadows to develop its EV technology and prepare a plan to secure volume production of its vehicles. The R1T is a four-door pickup that promises some of the best specs of any EV currently on the market. A 180 kWh battery pack good for 400 miles and a modular design that allows for upgradable hardware like LIDAR, radar, and GPS and over-the-air software updates for Level 3 autonomous driving will be available at launch. That battery pack combines with four motors for an output of 750hp, a 0-60 time of 3 seconds, and a towing capacity of over 11,000 lbs.

“I started Rivian to deliver products that the world didn’t already have – to redefine expectations through the application of technology and innovation. Starting with a clean sheet, we have spent years developing the technology to deliver the ideal vehicle for active customers. This means having great driving dynamics on any surface on- or off-road, providing cargo solutions to easily storing any type of gear whether it’s a surf board or a fishing rod and, very importantly, being capable of driving long distances on a single charge,” stated company founder and CEO, Rj Scaringe.

Pricing for the R1T starts at $61,500 after Federal Tax credit, with first deliveries arriving in late 2020, and they are now taking refundable $1,000 deposit to place a reservation.
