Wally Yachts Reveals First Hybrid Yacht

Monaco-based yacht builder Wally has revealed the design of their first-ever hybrid yacht, headed by chief designer Luca Bassani, and Ferretti Group’s Engineering Department.  The hybrid superyacht has been designed to offer up to 50% more living space compared to other yachts of her size.

The compact vessel spans 88 feet 9 inches and weighs just 200 gross tons. Designers say the 200GT yacht will convey the comfort and space of a much larger displacement yacht alongside the speed advantages of a semi-displacement yacht.

“Through the WHY200, we are challenging preconceived notions of what a yacht should be and how it can be used,” Wally’s managing director Stefano de Vivo said in a press release. “It is a platform that can be enjoyed by the whole family or groups of friends, without compromise.”

One of the design methods Wally enlisted to achieve more than 2,153 square feet of indoor living area was absorbing the space used for exterior walkways into a full-beam salon.  This allows for massive, full beam living areas—a total of 2,153 square feet—all linked via an amidship, carbon-fiber staircase. The vessel is topped with a Wally signature: a raked glass skylounge but enclosed on the WHY200, a first for Wally. Additionally, an informal show kitchen can be fitted as an optional layout.

Another stand-out feature of the Wally WHY200 is the 398 square foot owner’s suite located at the yacht’s bow. Wrapped on all sides by glass, the oversized owner’s suite offers a 200-degree view as far as the eye can see. The beach club has fold-out wings for 3-sided access to the water and two tender garages capable of storing a 4-meter tender and a slew of water toys. The lower deck has a 3 or 4 stateroom layout, with additional quarters for up to 5 crew.

The WHY200 is the first Wally Hybrid Yacht and is optimized for both full- and semi-displacement cruising.  Featuring an adaptive multi-propulsion system, the WHY200 is a balance between the voluminous but slower full displacement yachts and the restricted but lighting fast planing yachts.

When making short trips, the crew can operate the WHY200 in hyper displacement mode to achieve a cruising speed of 20 knots, but when taking slower trips can switch to the economical long-range displacement mode. Discover Opulent Club on Apple News.
