The California tuning company Gunther Werks has just unveiled its latest project, introduced the 993 Speedster Remastered as an open-top version of its potent, retro-inspired take on the final air-cooled 911.
Gunther Werks calls the new creation an “open-air model that not only heightens the experience with the rush of wind through your hair, but also pushes the boundaries of performance to build a stronger, lighter, faster car”.
The 993 Speedster Remastered features a 4.0-liter flat-six engine from Rothsport Racing to deliver more grunt than the company’s hardtop 400R with its 435 hp and 335 lb-ft (454 Nm) of torque. This power is transmitted to the rear axle thanks to an upgraded version of the 993’s original Getrag manual gearbox.
The fabric roof is stowed beneath a carbon fiber rear panel that includes two large buttresses and a new roll-cage hoop set-up has been introduced to improve both safety and rigidity. This being a Speedster, the windshield is smaller than a 993 hardtop and can be optioned out entirely in the build process. The prominent ‘duck tail’ rear wing with ram air scoop is another retro nod to the 911’s heritage, modelled on that which adorned the 1973 Carrera RS 2.7.
The reworked interior is made using weatherproof materials, as well as an aluminum gauge cluster and various carbon fiber parts, including the hollow carbon fiber seats. Also swapped out is the original Porsche 911 pedal box, replaced with one that features “more ergonomic positioning than the OEM assembly.”
Gunther Werks has yet to confirm pricing for the new model but will build just 25 examples of the 993 Speedster Remastered with production to begin in early 2022. Discover Opulent Club on Apple News.
