UNICO 18˚77˚ Montego Bay: A New Chapter in Caribbean Luxury

Jamaica is preparing to welcome a new chapter in contemporary Caribbean hospitality with the arrival of UNICO 18˚77˚ Montego Bay, the first property from UNICO Hotel Collection outside Mexico. Scheduled to open on 1 March 2027 along Jamaica’s celebrated north coast, the adults-only, all-inclusive resort will bring together personalised service, sophisticated design, wellness and gastronomy while placing the character of Jamaica at the centre of the guest experience.

With 451 rooms and suites, nine restaurants and bars, four swimming pools and the largest Esencia Wellness Spa in the UNICO portfolio, the scale of the project is considerable. Yet its significance is not necessarily found in the number of facilities it will offer. The more compelling proposition is how the resort intends to translate UNICO’s established approach to hospitality into a destination with its own distinctive culture, culinary traditions, artistic heritage and relationship with the natural world.

For luxury travellers today, an exceptional resort is increasingly expected to offer more than beautiful architecture, impeccable service and an abundance of amenities. There is a growing desire for a genuine connection to place to experience a destination through its food, art, music, people, landscapes and traditions rather than simply observing it from a resort. UNICO 18˚77˚ Montego Bay has been conceived around this philosophy, with Jamaican influences intended to extend throughout the property and become part of the experience rather than simply serving as a decorative theme.

Set along the coastline of Montego Bay, the resort will incorporate locally commissioned artwork, Jamaican ingredients and flavours, live music, artisanal experiences and cultural programming. The intention is to create an environment that reflects the island’s creative energy while encouraging guests to venture beyond the resort and discover Montego Bay for themselves. In an era when luxury travellers are becoming increasingly discerning about authenticity, that sense of place may ultimately prove more valuable than the sheer abundance traditionally associated with all-inclusive hospitality.

The culinary programme will be central to that experience. Across nine restaurants and bars, guests will encounter globally influenced cuisine shaped by Jamaican ingredients and regional specialities. Local spirits tastings, chef-led experiences, artisanal workshops and a rotating programme of live music and cultural events will further connect the resort with the island around it. Rather than attempting to reproduce a familiar international luxury formula, the ambition is to allow Jamaica to influence the flavour and character of the stay.

Wellness will take a similarly considered approach. The 32-room Esencia Wellness Spa is planned as a substantial retreat dedicated to restoration and movement, with hydrotherapy facilities, a hammam, fitness and movement classes, beauty services and treatments inspired by the surrounding region. Outside the spa, guests will have access to a state-of-the-art fitness centre, pickleball courts and opportunities to play at several of Montego Bay’s renowned golf courses. The broader concept reflects the changing role of wellness within luxury travel, where wellbeing is no longer confined to an individual treatment but increasingly becomes part of the rhythm of an entire journey.

The accommodation has been designed to complement that philosophy with an emphasis on privacy, space and indoor-outdoor living. Almost all rooms and suites are expected to feature views of the Caribbean, alongside private outdoor spa tubs and generous terraces. Locally sourced bath amenities, aromatherapy options and pillow menus will add personalised touches, while 24-hour room service will allow guests to retreat into their own private environment whenever they choose. Custom furnishings and a relaxed approach to design are intended to make the rooms feel refined without becoming overly formal.

Perhaps the most distinctive element of the guest experience will be UNICO’s Local Host service. Available before arrival and throughout a guest’s stay, Local Hosts will assist with restaurant reservations, spa appointments, golf, excursions and other arrangements, while also taking care of more personal requests. The concept reflects a broader evolution in the meaning of luxury. Today, luxury is often less about visible extravagance and more about time—specifically, giving guests the freedom to enjoy their surroundings without having to manage the practical details themselves.

“Expanding beyond Mexico marks an exciting milestone for UNICO Hotel Collection, but our philosophy remains the same,” said Philipp Hofer, Managing Director of PAM Hotels and General Manager of UNICO 18˚77˚ Montego Bay. “Every resort is shaped by the destination it calls home. Montego Bay gives us the opportunity to celebrate Jamaica’s culture, creativity, cuisine and hospitality in a way that feels authentic to the island while staying true to the personalised experience that defines our brand.”

The Jamaican resort will become the third property in the UNICO collection, following UNICO 20°87° Riviera Maya and UNICO 20°105° Riviera Nayarit. While the three properties share the brand’s adults-only, all-inclusive philosophy, each is intended to reflect the identity of its particular destination. Montego Bay therefore represents more than an additional address for the collection; it is an opportunity for UNICO to demonstrate how its hospitality concept can evolve when placed within a different cultural and geographical landscape.

The resort is also being positioned as a versatile setting for different kinds of luxury escapes. Couples can retreat into private spaces and ocean-facing accommodation, solo travellers can create a slower rhythm around wellness and dining, while groups can take advantage of the resort’s restaurants, recreational facilities and cultural programming. For those marking anniversaries, birthdays or other significant moments, the combination of sophisticated hospitality and Jamaica’s natural setting provides an inherently memorable backdrop.

Yet perhaps the most important measure of the property will be whether it succeeds in avoiding one of the perennial challenges of luxury all-inclusive hospitality: creating an experience so complete that guests never feel compelled to discover the destination outside its gates. The most compelling modern resorts understand that luxury does not have to mean isolation. Instead, the resort can become a sophisticated starting point from which guests experience the character of the place around them.

That is where UNICO 18˚77˚ Montego Bay has the opportunity to distinguish itself. Jamaica is not being positioned merely as scenery for an international hotel brand, but as an active influence on the experience itself. Its flavours, music, artistry, hospitality and tropical landscape are intended to appear throughout the stay, creating a connection between the polished environment of the resort and the culture beyond it.

For Opulent Club, that is perhaps the most intriguing aspect of the project. Luxury hospitality is entering an era in which exclusivity alone is no longer enough. Travellers increasingly want hotels and resorts with personality, a strong sense of identity and experiences that could not simply be replicated somewhere else. The finest properties understand that true luxury is not necessarily about having more, but about making everything feel more meaningful.

When UNICO 18˚77˚ Montego Bay opens in March 2027, it will introduce a new interpretation of that idea to Jamaica’s north coast. With its combination of personalised service, expansive facilities, wellness, gastronomy and locally influenced experiences, the resort has the potential to become more than another new Caribbean opening. If its vision is realised, it could offer a refined version of all-inclusive hospitality in which the destination itself remains at the heart of the experience and where Jamaica is not simply the setting, but part of what makes the stay unforgettable.
