The Macallan is deepening its celebrated relationship with sherry-seasoned oak with TIME : SPACE Sherry Cask, a 20-year-old single malt and the latest chapter in its TIME : SPACE Collection. Priced at $1,400, the expression carries particular significance for the Speyside house: it is the first Macallan whisky influenced by casks seasoned with sherry from Valdespino since the historic Jerez producer became part of The Macallan’s ownership story.
For generations, sherry seasoned oak from Jerez de la Frontera has been fundamental to The Macallan’s signature character. Through Valdespino, the distillery can now oversee an even greater portion of that journey, from the selection and preparation of oak to its seasoning with sherry before the casks make their way to Scotland. TIME : SPACE Sherry Cask began its maturation at The Macallan Estate in predominantly European oak sherry-seasoned casks, complemented by a smaller influence of American oak. The whisky was subsequently married in a selection of the first 200 sherry casks seasoned at The Macallan’s own Valdespino bodega in Jerez a fitting connection to the distillery’s bicentenary. Crafted in The Macallan’s cooperages and filled with sherry in 2024, most of these casks are destined to shape future generations of whisky, while a select number have already given this release another encounter with freshly seasoned oak.
Bottled at 44.8% ABV and presented in its natural color, the whisky offers an indulgent profile of dark fruit, confectionery and warming spice. Sherry soaked raisins, figs and Medjool dates lead into frangipane, cinder toffee, caramelized nuts and dark chocolate, followed by cinnamon, ginger and star anise. On the palate, dried fruits unfold alongside ginger cake, treacle toffee, bramble jam and chocolate-covered cherries, while clove and cinnamon bring warmth before cocoa, espresso and polished oak emerge. The finish is elegant and persistent, with gentle oak and layers of spice lingering on the palate.
The presentation continues the visual language established by the TIME : SPACE Collection, housed in its distinctive circular vessel symbolizing the constant movement between past, present and future. The accompanying case draws inspiration from Jerez, echoing the rounded form of the Palomino grape cultivated in Valdespino vineyards and the warm golden light of Andalusia.
The launch also introduces Mastery Beyond Reason, a new documentary exploring the people, landscapes and craftsmanship behind The Macallan’s sherry-seasoned casks. Narrated by photographer Steve McCurry and featuring sommelier Josep Roca, the film traces the journey from oak forests and sawmills in America and northern Spain to the cooperages and bodegas of Jerez, before following the casks to The Macallan Estate in Speyside.
Following the bicentenary releases TIME : SPACE and TIME : SPACE Mastery, this latest expression continues The Macallan’s exploration of time, craftsmanship and the intricate relationship between oak, sherry and spirit. TIME : SPACE Sherry Cask is priced at $1,400 and is available through The Macallan Ballot from September 17 through September 24, 2026.
