High-end French audio manufacturer Focal has announced two brand new top-tier additions to its Utopia speaker lineup, Grande Utopia EM Evo and Stella Utopia EM Evo. These two models round out Focal’s luxury Utopia III Evo product line, providing updates to the speaker drivers, crossover, speaker structure and available finishes.
They integrate all the research the company has done since launching the highly acclaimed Utopia III model in 2008. The Grande Utopia is a four-way reference monitor, whereas the Stella Utopia is a three-way.
Grande Utopia EM Evo and Stella Utopia EM Evo loudspeakers epitomize Focal’s devotion to research and development for true audio innovation. They display the brand’s exclusive technologies, particularly in the midrange: the TMD (Tuned Mass Damping) suspension and the NIC (Neutral Inductance Circuit), TMD is also claimed to offer an even wider stereo image. The new Utopia models feature the same electromagnetic woofers and beryllium tweeters that listeners loved in the previous model.
The structure of the loudspeaker itself has also been strengthened by the new MRR (Machined Reinforcement Rings) system around thespeaker drivers. It is composed of solid aluminumparts machined in the mass, positioned between the front speaker and the speaker driver basket. This technology is used in the form of rings for the 6″ and 11″ speaker drivers of the StellaUtopia EM Evo, and on the 6″ speaker drivers of the Grande Utopia EM Evo. The 13″ (Stella Utopia EM Evo) and 15″ woofers (Grande Utopia EM Evo) also use segments of solid aluminum.
The company claims that these latest top-end models are “acoustic sculptures” that will bring your favorite music to life. The Grande Utopia EM Evo will cost $120,000 per pair, and the Scala Utopia Em Evo will cost $65,000 per pair. Both new models will be available for sale in September of 2018.
