McLaren has unveiled a special one-off version of its 720S Spider by MSO at the Geneva motor show. The car is designed to highlight the advanced aerodynamics of the new Super Series convertible. Its aero design is accentuated with the help of a spectacular fusion of colors, features a Meteorite Gray exterior with highlights done in Cerulean Blue, Abyss Black, and Burton Blue. It took MSO more than 260 hours to complete the tri-tone paint elements.
“Aerodynamic innovation is such an integral part of the 720S Spider that using this new paint design to highlight areas that work hard to manage how air flows over the car – literally how the car ‘breathes’ – was the natural approach to take,” said MSO Chief Designer Darryl Scriven. “This is a car that truly merges artistry with the science of aerodynamics.”
The main body color is a Meteorite Grey hue, the newest addition to the MSO Bespoke range of exterior colors. Meanwhile, the 10-spoke Super Lightweight forged wheels boast an MSO Bespoke Abyss Black gloss finish, Burton Blue brake calipers peeking out behind them. The cabin carries Burton Blue on some areas and contrasts this with Jet Black upholstery. MSO Bespoke options include gloss finish carbon seat backs, plus MSO Bespoke branding to accelerator pedal, dedication plaque, floor mats and the headrests, the latter in a new debossed treatment.
The special 720S Spider also sports a number of other custom features, including the use of carbonfibre for the tonneau cover, diffuser and B-pillars, as well as a sports exhaust and electrochromatic glass on the retractable hard-top.
The mechanical elements of the one-off 720S are unchanged from the standard car’s, is powered by a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine, producing 720 PS (710 HP) and 568 lb-ft (769 Nm) of torque.
