With Valentines Day less than a month away, Breguet adds a new touch to its superbly feminine Reine de Naples model with the introduction of a new hand in the shape of a changing heart. Presented in the familiar egg-shaped Reine de Naples case, the Cœur edition (coeur is “heart” in French) is inspired by 18th century “expanding hands” pocket watches.
The Breguet Reine De Naples Cœur 9825 Heart Edition comes in a 36.5mm 18-karat rose gold oval case with a delicately fluted case and. The dial flange and the bezel are set with 128 diamonds. The setting of the folding buckle, also in gold, echoes the brilliance of the case, amounting to a total of approximately 0.94 carats. Hours are displayed through an aperture at the center of the white lacquer dial. The resulting composition is delicately elegant.
The Reine de Naples Cœur operates on the same principles as its 18th century predecessors: an oval cam under the dial drives each half of the heart at a different rate, allowing the heart hand to vary its shape as it travels.
The cam is part of the expanding-hands mechanism protected by four patents according to Breguet. The movement, Caliber 78A0, is visible through the sapphire-crystal caseback. It’s an automatic movement with a 40-hour power reserve, and like many contemporary Breguet calibres, has its hairspring and escape wheel in silicon.
Presented in an envelope clutch bag finished in grained calfskin leather and dyed vermilion red to match the strap.
