Founded in 2016 by Claudio D’Amore, Code41 is an independent watch brand based in Lausanne, Switzerland with a team of 28 people that have created six watch collections to date. Is looking to add an entirely new class of timing devices to the mix with its Mecascape Sublimation One. This creation is not born for the wrist, but a merger between a pocket watch and a desk clock in one.
The CODE41 Mecascape “Sublimation One” is neither an expansion of a watch nor the flattening of a This new mechanical sculpture, dubbed ‘Mecascape,’ a play on the two words “mechanical” and “landscape” is all about balance and harmony. CODE41 has taken a completely different approach to watchmaking. They have regarded the timepiece as a whole, with a fully visible mechanism, put on a flat surface with a look whose complexity grows exponentially.
The entire “landscape” of the Mecascape is protected by anti-reflective sapphire crystal, and its robust Grade 5 titanium case back prevents case twisting and ensures a sturdy mechanical object suitable for everyday life. The ultra-light titanium rectangular-shaped case that measures at 108mm in width and 71mm in height. An ultra-wide flat sapphire crystal on the entire front of the case reveals the display and its openworked movement including the balance wheel, escapement, mainspring barrel, and gear train and a smaller circular sapphire crystal window on the caseback offering a further glance into the mechanics.
Developed and manufactured in Switzerland, the 4Hz, 237 component, 39-jewel, manually wound Mecascape caliber with an impressive 8-day power reserve drives the hours, minutes, seconds, date, 24-hour second-time zone, and 8-day power reserve indications. The Mecascape Sublimation One has quite the canvas on display. The largest indication is for the minutes, which is positioned in the upper left corner of the case. The hour dial partially overlaps this, and the date indication is also integrated into the minute dial. The final element on this side of the case as far as indications go is the small seconds subdial. The right-hand side of the movement displays the power reserve in a semi-circular scale at the top right corner. Below that is the GMT display with a 24-hour scale and a representation of the map of the world.
With the movement being almost entirely skeletonized, you can see every little detail of the horizontal construction and all its components. The finishing of the dial/movement is very modern and architectural, with horizontal brushing, bevelled edges, polished screws and more. In terms of colour, Code41 offers black with white and red, silver with black and red, or steel blue with white and neon green. The hands for the hours, minutes and GMT display are skeletonized and have a coloured tip. The remaining two hands are solid and finished in a single colour.
The first Mecascape will be available in several color variations, ranging from black and red to blue and green. It will come with two accessories: a metal stand that allows it to be positioned vertically and a travel case made of high-quality Italian leather lined with microfiber with a small cut-out to elegantly store a bank card or business card.
The Mecascape Sublimation One is available on pre-order for $9,950 from today until November 30, 2022. Learn more at Code41. Discover Opulent Club on Apple news.
