Balenciaga’s Spring/Summer 2025 collection debuted during Paris Fashion Week and drew a star-studded front row, including global pop icon from Katy Perry to Nicole Kidman, and Balenciaga and Kering management. At its core, fashion is a lens through which designers interpret the world drawing from cultural roots, craftsmanship, or even family heritage. And in Balenciaga’s latest show, Creative Director Demna made his familial ties unmistakable.
His grandmother’s table is where Demna discovered he was interested in clothes as a young boy in Georgia. “My earliest memories of fashion start with me drawing looks on cardboard, cutting them out, and making ‘fashion shows,” he wrote. This nostalgic reflection set the tone for the collection, which played on the theme of reinvention and craftsmanship, balancing traditional and experimental aesthetics.
Demna may have been trying to reconnect with his inner child, but there was nothing guileless about this collection. One of the standout elements was the cocoon silhouette a nod to Cristóbal Balenciaga’s legacy. Known for its voluminous yet structured form, the cocoon shape has long been a symbol of the brand’s ability to sculpt fabric in new and innovative ways.
Another bold move in the collection was the use of lingerie-inspired looks, which pushed the boundaries of structure and minimalism.
The evening before fashion month came to a close, frequent Balenciaga showgoers made their way to a darkened venue in the heart of Paris. Inside the pitch-black room was an elongated dinner table, which served as the evening’s elevated catwalk.
