A. Lange & Söhne Revisits the Classics with the Minute Repeater Perpetual

Leading A. Lange & Söhne’s 2025 collection is the Minute Repeater Perpetual. Housed in a refined platinum case with a black enamel dial, this latest Saxonia flagship is the brand’s first time pairing these two revered complications independently. Crafted in 950 platinum and limited to just 50 pieces.

The Minute Repeater Perpetual by Lange commands attention with its 40mm platinum case (12.1mm thick) and a striking yet understated black enamel dial. Platinum, a rare and luxurious metal, is more challenging to work with than gold but is prized for its exceptional acoustic properties, enhancing the chime’s clarity and resonance.

Engage the slide on the left case flank, and the Minute Repeater Perpetual springs to life. Deep chimes announce the hours, double tones indicate the quarters, and crisp high notes count the minutes—creating a symphony of 720 unique sequences across each 12-hour cycle. A safety mechanism prevents the minute repeater from activating when the crown is pulled, while a patented hammer blocker ensures precise chimes by preventing unintended rebound strikes on the gongs.

While the minute repeater marks the present, the perpetual calendar looks ahead. Engineered to navigate the intricacies of the Gregorian calendar—including varying month lengths and leap years—it remains precise until March 1, 2100, when the next leap year is omitted. The moon-phase display, featuring twin 750 gold moons set against hand-engraved stars, mirrors the synodic cycle with such accuracy that it deviates by only one day every 122.6 years. All calendar indications advance simultaneously via a single corrector, while dedicated adjusters for the day, month/leap year, and moon phase ensure both precision and convenience. At 12 o’clock, the iconic outsize date—an A. Lange & Söhne signature since 1994—provides a bold focal point, blending functionality with unmistakable elegance.

The in-house crafted glossy black enamel dial echoes the layout of the Langematik Perpetual Calendar, featuring the signature outsize date at 12 o’clock. A delicate circular white gold border, known as a ‘lesene,’ enhances legibility by distinctly separating the dial’s sections. This includes the chapter ring with applied Roman numerals and three sub-dials: day of the week and 24-hour display at 9 o’clock, month and leap year at 3 o’clock, and moon phase with small seconds at 6 o’clock.

The caseback unveils the intricate craftsmanship and technical mastery of the new Calibre L122.2. Comprising 640 components, this manual-winding movement showcases Lange’s signature engraved balance cock and a three-quarter plate crafted from untreated German silver, adorned with striking black rhodium engravings. The hand-engraved balance cock, with a whiplash spring, regulates a shock-resistant screw balance and in-house balance spring, offering 21,600 vph and a 72-hour power reserve.

The Minute Repeater Perpetual features a black hand-stitched alligator leather strap with a platinum deployant buckle, it’s available exclusively at A. Lange & Söhne boutiques. Price upon request. More at alange.soehne.com.
