Baselworld 2018 has opened its doors and Bvlgari sets two new records in a single watch: the world’s thinnest tourbillon watch and the world’s thinnest automatic watch. The brand’s new model, Bvlgari Octo Finissimo Tourbillon, owns a new world record with a total thickness of 3.95mm.
Bvlgari Octo Collection, which is the brand’s latest flagship, the new model comes in a sandblasted titanium case measuring 42mm in diameter and only 3.95mm in height. The front face of the 30 meters water resistant case is equipped with a sapphire crystal while the rear side is covered with a titanium caseback bearing a small sapphire crystal display right over the tourbillon.
The oscillating weight is made of white gold and aluminum, two metals whose contrasting density (16.4 versus 2.70 grams per cm³) should enable the circular weight to oscillate more efficiently. The movement also incorporates a flying tourbillon equipped with a ball-bearing system to contribute to the reduced thickness. The new model ticks with the Caliber BVL 288 Finissimo. Self-winding movement is only 1.95mm thick. The caliber beats at 3Hz and offers 55 hours of power reserve when fully wound.
Just 50 pieces will be made, with each one retailing for 120,000 Swiss Francs.
