Hublot’s latest horological innovation, the MP-10 Tourbillon Weight Energy System, represents a fundamental departure from traditional watchmaking principles. Visually arresting and technically complex, this limited edition timepiece is powered by a movement displaying the hours and minutes on rollers, the seconds on an inclined tourbillon cage and the power reserve on a third roller. Its automatic winding system consists of two gold masses sliding on rails on either side of the movement.
The time is displayed vertically, on two rotating cylinders. Additionally, the running seconds are marked directly on the cage of the tourbillon at the bottom of the watch. The central third showcases a circular power reserve, featuring a clearly delineated green zone and red zone.
The automatic calibre HUB9013 required five years of R&D and comprises no fewer than 592 parts. Hublot’s engineers ingeniously adapted the weight principle, transforming it into a vertical configuration mirroring the movement’s orientation. This innovation involves two blocks of white gold positioned on either side of the central architecture, allowing them unrestricted movement along a vertical axis to prevent them from colliding with the banking. Hublot implemented a sophisticated shock absorber system. The watch can also be wound manually with the crown at 12 o’clock and the power reserve is rated at 48 hours. The retractable crown at the back of the watch is used to set the time.
The Hublot MP-10 features a microblasted titanium case. Amusingly, its rectangular profile and rounded corners, it feels automotive inspired. Its sleek oblong case measures 54.1mm in length, 41.5mm in width and 22.4mm in thickness , water resistant to 3 ATM (30 metres / 100 feet). It is a simple two-piece construction, the sapphire crystal atop it is Hublot’s most complex to date and combines inclined planes on three axes. The same applies to the integrated black rubber strap, secured to the wrist by a titanium deployment buckle.
The Hublot MP-10 Tourbillon Weight Energy System is limited to 50 pieces, it has a price of €275,000 / CHF 250,000 / US$264,000.
