Mandarin Oriental Exceptional Homes has unveiled Castello di Procopio as the latest addition to its portfolio, introducing the brand’s first residence in Umbria, Italy. Set within a 12th-century estate, the property seamlessly blends historic architecture with contemporary comforts, inviting guests to immerse themselves in the rich culture and heritage of the region.

Castello di Procopio dates back to the 1100s, built by order of Emperor Frederico Barbarossa. Long before that, the site hosted a Roman temple to the goddess Tedite, a Gregorian monastery, and later, the medieval Church of San Pietro. The restoration was both bold and precise. Using original blueprints and historical records, artisans carefully revived the estate’s stonework, vaulted ceilings, and architectural details. The result is a majestic property that honors its imperial past while embodying Mandarin Oriental’s refined luxury.

Set on 11 verdant acres, Castello di Procopio is framed by olive groves, vineyards, and wildflower meadows—like a Renaissance painting brought to life. Panoramic views extend toward Assisi, enveloping the estate in a truly postcard-perfect landscape.

The interiors of Castello di Procopio showcase refined restoration at its finest. Eight en-suite bedrooms, each uniquely designed, accommodate up to 16 guests with Italian linens, custom furnishings, and modern comforts. From the stately reception hall to the cozy library and bar lounge, the ambiance is both inviting and sophisticated.

The experience at Castello di Procopio is designed to immerse guests in the spirit of Umbria. Mornings begin with the aroma of espresso and a bespoke breakfast by the estate’s private chef, using the finest local ingredients. As the sun warms the olive groves, guests can enjoy a swim in the infinity pool or unwind in the vaulted spa suite.
Afternoons are serene and unhurried—perhaps a film in the private cinema, a game of bocce beneath the cypress trees, or a quiet moment in the frescoed library. For those seeking adventure, the concierge can arrange wine tastings in Montefalco or private tours in Assisi.

Evenings are pure atmosphere: aperitivi on the terrace, followed by candlelit dinners featuring seasonal Umbrian dishes crafted by the chef. All is attended to by a discreet, gracious team, ensuring every moment is both effortless and memorable.
Castello di Procopio offers a fully immersive escape of history, nature, and refined luxury. Priced between €5,000 and €22,000 per night, it ranks among the world’s most exclusive stays in Mandarin Oriental’s Exceptional Homes collection.
