Hermès Reimagines Equestrian Heritage

For nearly two centuries, the horse has defined the identity of Hermès. Yet instead of revisiting familiar equestrian motifs, the French maison’s latest high jewellery collection, Into the Horsescape, explores that legacy through a far more artistic lens. Designed by Hermès Jewellery Creative Director Pierre Hardy, the collection transforms the spirit of horsemanship into bold architectural forms, refined craftsmanship, and extraordinary gemstones.

Founded in Paris in 1837 as a maker of fine harnesses and saddlery, Hermès built its reputation on exceptional leather craftsmanship for Europe’s aristocracy. While the house has evolved into one of the world’s most prestigious luxury brands, its equestrian DNA continues to influence every creative chapter. Into the Horsescape marks the ninth high jewellery collection from the maison and offers a contemporary interpretation of that enduring heritage.

Rather than depicting horses directly, Hardy focuses on the emotions, movement, and craftsmanship associated with the equestrian world. The result is a collection where curves, tension, balance, and fluidity become the defining language, allowing each creation to suggest the presence of the horse without relying on figurative imagery.

“I prefer to evoke the story of Hermès rather than illustrate it,” Hardy explains. “Our inspiration comes from everyday objects and traditional craftsmanship, but through imagination they become extraordinary works of jewellery.”

This philosophy is evident throughout the collection. Familiar equestrian elements are transformed into striking contemporary designs: the sweeping motion of a lasso becomes a cascade of precisely set baguette-cut diamonds; a historic saddle inspires an elegant bracelet crafted in satin-finished black titanium; the graceful contour of a horse’s hoof is distilled into sleek black jade jewellery; and the humble horseshoe nail is elevated into dramatic diamond-set spikes that create unexpected architectural silhouettes.

The collection highlights Hermès’ signature ability to merge technical mastery with artistic restraint. Precious materials including white gold, black titanium, black jade, and exceptional diamonds are combined to create pieces that feel both sculptural and remarkably wearable. Every necklace, ring, cuff, and pair of earrings reflects meticulous craftsmanship while maintaining an understated sophistication synonymous with the maison.

For Hardy, jewellery is never simply an ornament but an extension of personal style. He believes true elegance comes from how a piece interacts with the wearer how it moves, catches the light, and becomes part of an individual’s presence rather than merely serving as decoration.

With Into the Horsescape, Hermès demonstrates that its greatest source of inspiration remains not the image of the horse itself, but the values it represents: freedom, movement, precision, and timeless craftsmanship. The collection stands as a sophisticated tribute to the maison’s origins while embracing a distinctly modern vision of haute joaillerie, where abstraction and artistry come together to create jewellery that is both deeply rooted in heritage and unmistakably contemporary.
