Apple is taking its relationship with music beyond the screen and into the heart of London with the launch of Apple Music Hall, a new 600 people capacity live venue designed to bring artists and audiences closer together while giving performances the production capabilities of a major concert stage.

The new space reflects Apple’s decades-long connection to music, from the cultural impact of the iPod and iTunes to the evolution of Apple Music. Designed so that every seat feels connected to the performer, the venue combines an intimate atmosphere with technology typically reserved for much larger productions. Its 38-foot stage can be transformed for in-the-round performances, while a 48-speaker spatial audio system is engineered to create an immersive listening experience throughout the room.

Apple Music Hall is also conceived as a complete production environment rather than simply a performance venue. Two professional recording and mixing studios sit within the facility, while the space is equipped to accommodate more than 16 cameras and includes a dedicated broadcast control room with support for iPhone-based video production. A single performance can therefore become far more than a live concert, with artists able to leave the venue with a finished Spatial Audio recording, broadcast-ready audio and multicamera video.

The programming will extend well beyond London. Performances from Apple Music Hall are set to be livestreamed globally, allowing Apple Music audiences around the world to experience exclusive performances as they happen. For artists, the venue creates an opportunity to combine the immediacy of an intimate show with the reach and production capabilities of a global digital platform.

Zane Lowe, Apple Music’s global creative director and lead anchor of Apple Music 1, described the project as an extension of Apple Music’s longstanding relationship with both musicians and their audiences. The ambition is clear: create a space where exceptional performances become lasting experiences while giving fans everywhere a front-row connection to the artists they follow.

Apple Music Hall officially opens September 28, introducing a new London destination where live performance, spatial audio, broadcast technology and global streaming converge under one roof.
