Bombardier’s New Jet Is the Fastest Since the Concorde

The fastest civilian jet since the Concorde is set to make its first delivery later this year. Bombardier’s latest business jet, the Global 8000, will be capable of going once it enters operational service. Slightly faster than the fastest Gulfstream around, the Mach 0.935 G700, it is something that’ll redefine the segment.

“This impressive aircraft will be the fastest and longest-range purpose-built business aircraft ever built,” Stephen McCullough, Bombardier’s senior vice president of engineering and product development, said in a statement.

The Global 8000 is powered by twin GE Passport engines, each producing 18,920 pounds of thrust, propelling the jet to speeds of up to 721 mph (1,161 kph). With a maximum range of 9,206 miles (14,816 km) on a single tank, it stands as the longest-range purpose-built business jet ever. This remarkable range makes it perfectly suited for nonstop intercontinental city-pair routes.

As with all aircraft in its class, the interior of the Global 8000 can be fully tailored to reflect the tastes and requirements of its discerning owners.

The Global 8000 will incorporate several advanced technologies derived from the Global 7500 platform. These include the aerodynamic “Smooth Flex Wing,” engineered to minimize drag, reduce turbulence, and optimize fuel efficiency. The cabin will feature Bombardier’s proprietary Nuage seating with zero-gravity recline functionality, and Soleil circadian lighting technology, developed to reduce jet lag by synchronizing light exposure with the body’s internal clock. The aircraft also integrates a high-performance cabin management system developed in collaboration with Lufthansa Technik. Notably, the cabin will maintain a pressurization altitude of just 2,900 feet, enhancing passenger comfort on long-haul flights.

With a high degree of customization available, the final cost of the Global 8000 varies based on individual specifications and bespoke finishes. However, pricing for this new generation of ultra-long-range business jets typically begins around $81 million—positioning it competitively within the top tier of the market.
