Daimler has just announced its futuristic Mercedes-Benz VISION AVTR at the ongoing Consumer Electronics Show (CES). It is the automaker’s view of a battery electric vehicle / autonomous vehicle ready for a sustainable future. AVTR stands for Advanced Vehicle Transformation.
As soon as the driver gets in the VISION AVTR, the car becomes an extension of his or her own body and a tool to discover the environment much as in the film humans can use avatars to extend and expand their abilities. Place your hand on the central controller and the vehicle reads your pulse. The massive central screen, meanwhile, lets you virtually travel to a distant land – be it the world of Pandora or somewhere here on Earth.
Lifting your hand prompts the VISION AVTR to project a menu onto your palm where you can explore a 3-D rendering of Avatar’s Pandora world. There are no physical controls like knobs or switches.
The concept car is characterized by a bionic, nature-inspired formal design. The exterior of the Mercedes-Benz VISION AVTR features a rear complete with 33 multi-functional flaps that move in synchronization to mimic the breathing and movement of creatures on Pandora. These flaps also double to improve aerodynamics.
The car is fitted with the organic battery technology made of recyclable materials. The VISION AVTR’s battery is based on graphene-based organic cell chemistry that is completely free of rare earths and metals. The battery can also be recharged in just 15 minutes and is good for a range of 700 km (434 miles). Propelling the concept forward are four fully-independent electric motors at each corner that combine to produce 470 hp. The materials of the battery are compostable and therefore completely recyclable. Discover Opulent Club on Apple News.
