Cruise shows often take place in far-off locales, and for the past few years Louis Vuitton presenting its Cruise collections in Rio de Janeiro, Tokyo, French Riviera and at New York City’s JFK airport, Louis Vuitton unveiled Game On Cruise 2021 line in Nicolas Ghesquière’s Paris studio, amid a global pandemic.
Titled “Game On,” Louis Vuitton’s Cruise 2021 line is “inspired by a stationary journey. A contradiction, but not a burden,” Indeed, Ghesquière took the opportunity to roam through his design lexicon. The collection plays with the fantasy of illusion, where clubs bloom, spades pierce, diamonds sparkle, and the almighty heart reigns.
Playing cards are a primary motif for Cruise 2021, printed on the house’s accessories as a representation of the collection’s thematic direction. The symbolism of the card deck, the traveler’s loyal companion, evokes the power of the game to encourage togetherness.
The designs also incorporate an element of comfort with leggings, sneakers, sweatpants, and windbreaker jackets making an appearance, perhaps a nod to the lockdown-related surge in loungewear styles.
The lookbook was photographed by Nicolas Krief in Ghesquière’s Paris studio.
“I looked somewhere that has been calling out to me for a long time, somewhere I hadn’t taken the time to go back to. To uncover one inspiration after another. This is an exploration of my creative identity,” Ghesquière said in a statement.
