Cementing its status as one of, if not the, most prestigious Cognac houses, Maison Martell has announced the launch of Les Remarquables de Martell collection. Each year, Maison Martell will release a single, precious masterpiece: an exceptionally rare cognac encased within a bespoke dame-jeanne, transformed into an exquisite objet d’art by a distinguished artist. Each year, Maison Martell will release a single, precious masterpiece: an exceptionally rare cognac encased within a bespoke dame-jeanne, transformed into an exquisite objet d’art by a distinguished artist. These singular creations, valued at an astounding one million euros each, represent the epitome of exclusivity and sophistication.
The first release in this new collection is a blend of two 70-year-old eaux-de-vie which were hand-selected by Martell cellar master, Christophe Valtaud. The brandies were sourced from the Grand Champagne region (Cru) of France prior to aging in Maison Martell’s Port du Lys cellar.
The first, having spent longer in oak, is characterised by power, tension and length on the palate, with prominent notes of cedar. The second is fresh and vibrant, with notes of honey, white flowers and candied fruit. While the first eau-de-vie evolves from wood to fruit, the second evolves from fruit to wood, thus creating a remarkable harmony that would not exist were they tasted alone.
For the inaugural edition, Maison Martell commissioned acclaimed French artist Laurentine Perilhou to create a bespoke macramé masterpiece that serves as the vessel for the precious cognac. Following visits to the vineyards, cellars and archives, Perilhou has taken inspiration from Martell’s rich history and the natural world it relies on to craft the completely unique dame-jeanne. Using just her hands as tools, Perilhou’s creation, adorned with real gold thread and embellished with precious gemstones, is a stunning tribute to the natural beauty of the cognac-producing regions, crafted it into a sublime decorative piece that wraps around the glass bottle. Perilhou collaborated with two other artisans – a jeweler and cabinet maker – and poured over 800 hours into bringing the piece to life.
Additionally, Maison Martell offers bespoke accessories, ensuring that every aspect of the acquisition is tailored to perfection.
